About the Artists
Punahele
Punahele is a Native Hawaiian from Mākaha, Hawaiʻi who stands against anything that is harmful to ʻāina (land, water, or the planet). He is an Artist/Educator and Hip Hop practitioner who uses music to create a soundtrack to Hawaiian struggles and frontlines to advocate for change. Punahele is a four-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner and Hawaii’s firstever IRON MC Champion and has been teaching community songwriting and poetry workshops to incarcerated and “at-risk” youths for over 10 years. The music he creates aims to build Black and Indigenous solidarity in Oceania and beyond.
